Route to Employment
Our Route to Employment (RTE) programme provides an accessible, supportive pathway for people facing barriers to work to build confidence, practical skills, and readiness for employment or further training. The programme is designed for individuals who are keen to explore vocational skills but who may lack confidence, recent experience, or positive engagement with formal education or employability services.
Our course is intentionally informal, welcoming, and person-centred. It focuses on working with a smaller cohort of participants and investing sufficient time and support to enable meaningful progression at an appropriate pace. Participants are supported to identify their interests, strengths, and barriers, and to increase both skill level and engagement over time.
Delivery centres on hands-on learning through metal fabrication, welding, woodwork, and painting. Participants develop also core employability behaviours and safe working practices alongside practical vocational skills.
A distinctive feature of the programme is the opportunity for participants to work creatively with reclaimed and sustainable materials. This approach encourages problem-solving, creativity, and pride in workmanship, while reinforcing values of sustainability and responsible resource use. Participants are able to see tangible results from their work, helping to build confidence, motivation, and a sense of purpose.
Mentorship and informal skills gap analysis are embedded throughout delivery, enabling staff to tailor support and help participants understand potential next steps. Progression may include further training, volunteering, or employment, depending on individual readiness and aspiration.
The programme is delivered by our experienced staff, supported by volunteers and mentors- many of whom have lived experience of progression into work.
